Call it “accidental branding.” What started out as one of a series of sketches (in collaboration with producer friend Marcus Charleston) for 90.5 WESA’s former daily newsmagazine, Essential Pittsburgh, has new life as the visual mark for the weekly news roundup program, The Confluence.

This is a rare case when identity ideas worked just as well from one concept to another. Luckily for us, prior to the shift in programming at 90.5 WESA, a series of my sketched ideas for Essential Pittsburgh included the “confluence of the three rivers” motif – and little did we know that “The Confluence” had been born before even seeing it on the horizon.
